hermit macro 2

hermit macro 2

I'm having a ton of fun with my new macro lens. The 100mm focal length allows me to stay far enough away to avoid scaring critters without missing out on details. Hermit crabs usually hide in their shells when they see the shadow of the camera, but this one didn't know I was there so I was able to watch it scooping up bits of floating matter with the tiny claws in front of its mouth. The little claws are hard to see in the previous shot, but they are quite obvious in this one.
