Waiting in the passport lineup last week at 6 AM, I was reading Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I knew that he'd been a prisoner of war in Dresden during World War II, but I didn't realize until now how horrific it would be to survive the bombing of a city in an underground meat locker only to come out the next morning and find that many people had burned to death.

My favourite Kurt Vonnegut book is probably Cat's Cradle, so that's where the title for this picture comes.
