The second photo in this week's series on bridges is an old red bridge in East London, UK that looks a lot like the blue bridge in Victoria. This red bridge as smaller than the blue bridge, but it does have an interesting lift mechanism. There's a gear that looks like oxidized copper. My guess is it pushes the upper part of the bridge back and the curved lower section rolls back and teeth on the bottom plate (which are hard to see in this photo) catch to prevent the curved section from simply sliding backward. I was surprised to see this bridge because the steel beams and rivets look so similar to the blue bridge.
