purification
This is the end of the Buddhist ceremony from yesterday's picture. Barley flour was passed around and everyone threw it in the air to symbolize throwing away bad feelings or spirits. Personally, I'm not big on ceremonies, but only because I've been obliged to sit through many dull, empty ones. A good ceremony should be engaging and inspiring. A good ceremony should involve all people, not just boring old white men with ostentatious clothing and copious jewelry. (If I was a fan of ostentatious clothing and copious jewelry, I'd watch rap videos.) This ceremony had fire, smoke, chanting, music and this fun bit at the end that got everyone involved.
